As soon as they start crawling. It’s dangerous even if you’re grown up like your husband.lol.I think that’s a good age to get the gates.

We got rid of them at 3 for my brother. That is what we plan to do for my son too.

around 3 sounds about right, they are usually pretty sure footed by then.. But I would always keep an eye around stairs.

I would say between 3 and 4 years old. By then he should be able to go up and down the stairs without assistance.

When they can walk up and down stairs unassisted.
I say 2 or 3 years old.
The first answer-er is wrong. Crawling age is the most dangerous time for kids to be around stairs.

Ouch, I know how he felt – I fell down our stairs last month – bruised my but. My son is 3 and we no longer use a gate. Once you feel that he is walking steady down the stairs is when you no longer need them.

Without doing any research, I’d say 4 years old. That’s how long I will keep mine.
When they start to crawl I thought that was a bad time to give them access to the stairs lol. Before they can crawl they can’t really fall down the stairs lol.
